Umakant Gundecha and Anant Gundecha:

Umakant Gundecha is one of the foremost exponents of Dhrupad, one of the oldest surviving traditions of Indian classical music. For decades, he performed internationally with his brother, the late Pandit Ramakant Gundecha, as the celebrated Gundecha Brothers. Performing in the Dagar vani style, the duo became renowned for the depth, precision, and meditative character of their music, helping bring Dhrupad to audiences throughout India and around the world.

Umakant and Ramakant trained at the Dhrupad Kendra in Bhopal under legendary masters Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. Deeply rooted in the traditional guru-shishya system, their work as performers and educators played an important role in preserving and expanding the reach of Dhrupad for contemporary generations.

Today, Pandit Umakant Gundecha performs alongside Shri Anant Ramakant Gundecha, the son of Pandit Ramakant Gundecha, carrying this musical lineage forward into a new generation. Together, their performances continue…
