Carnatic musicians Ashwin Iyer and Rohin Iyer, known as the Toronto Brothers, are senior disciples of veteran musician and musicologist S.R. Janakiraman. The brothers were initiated into classical music early on by their parents and formally introduced to Carnatic music in 1989 when they began taking lessons under Toronto-based teachers. They have also had advanced training under T. R. Subrahmanyam and T. K. Govinda Rao.
Ashwin and Rohin have won prizes in various music competitions across North America and have given concerts in Canada, the US, and India.
Both are engineers by profession and are pursuing advanced degrees at the University of Toronto.
“Their level of understanding could be felt in their performance… The brothers' comprehension speaks not of just their talent but their guru's ability to sharpen his disciples' skills.” —Indian Express
