Within a few years he was already accompanying major musicians such as Pakistani vocalist Salamat Ali Khan. Early in Salar’s professional career--at the urging of his parents--he began contributing to organizations aiding the people of Afghanistan. As his career has developed, he has accompanied or collaborated with artists such as Sultan Khan (sarangi), Chitresh Das (kathak dance), Fareed Haque (jazz guitar), the Kronos Quartet (string quartet), and Ghulam Ali Khan (ghazals). More recently, he co-founded the Afghan music ensemble SARA, which gave Salar the opportunity of visiting Afghanistan for the first time.
