Mahesh Kale is a desciple of Jitendra Abhisheki, from whom he learned a range of classical and semi-classical styles. Mahesh’s first teacher was his mother, Meenal Kale, a student of Veena Sahasrabuddhe. Presently Mahesh continues to receive guidance from Shounak Abhisheki. –more

Salar Nader is a tabla player who was born in Germany, but has Afghan roots. His first exposure to tabla came when his family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and he began his study at age 7 with Zakir Hussain. –more

Gopal Marathe is a multi-faceted artist: composer, singer, harmonium player, music teacher and a choreographer. He has composed music for many bhajans, gazals, and dance dramas. –more

Carnatic musicians Ashwin Iyer and Rohin Iyer, known as the Toronto Brothers, are senior disciples of veteran musician and musicologist S.R. Janakiraman. The brothers were initiated into classical music early on by their parents and formally introduced to Carnatic music in 1989 when they began taking lessons under Toronto-based teachers. They have also had advanced training under T. R. Subrahmanyam and T. K. Govinda Rao. –more

Arun Ramamurthy (violin) was born in the U.S, and was introduced to western classical music under distinguished violinist Jim Mate. Influenced by his family surroundings, at age 11 Arun began a study of South Indian music under his first guru, Anandakrishnan. –more

Anantha R. Krishnan (mridangam) is the grandson and disciple of the renowned mridangam artist Palghat R. Raghu. Anantha made his concert debut accompanying the venerable violinist T. N. Krishnan. –more

The Divine Strings Orchestra is the result of the cooperation and rehearsal of two groups: a band of gifted young South Indian musicians from North America under the direction of Vinod Venkataraman, and the Musique Sur la Mer Youth Symphony Orchestra of Los Alamitos, CA, under the direction of Marcy Sudock. –more

Aishu Venkataraman is a brilliant musician and gifted student, playing South Indian classical music with an emphasis on jazz performance. Possessing a talent and poise far beyond her years, Aishu’s tonal quality, spectral purity and strong bowing technique are the hallmarks of her performance style. –more

Marcy Sudock is founder and director of the Youth Center Music Program, and conductor of the Musique Sur La Mer Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Honors Chamber Orchestra. A graduate of Cal State Long Beach, Sudock is a noted violin/viola instructor and a professional violinist. Her résumé spans decades of performances in recording studios, major concert halls in the United States and around the globe. –more

Rajna Swaminathan is an accomplished mridangam artist. She is a disciple and protégé of mridangam maestro Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman. –more

Umakant and Ramakant Gundecha are arguably the leading and most active current performers of the dhrupad style of Hindusthani vocal music. Dhrupad is the profound spiritual style that historically preceded khyal, the style of North Indian classical music most commonly heard today.

Born in Ujjain in Central India, the Gundecha Brothers were initiated into music by their parents. They received a conventional university education and learned the dhrupad art under the renowned vocalist Zia Fariduddin Dagar and also Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. –more

Akhilesh Gundecha learned pakhawaj from Shrikant Mishra and Raja Chhatrapati Singh JuDeo. Has also has received scholarships from the Ustad Allauddin Khan Sangeet Academy (Bhopal) and the Government of India. –more

Partho Sarothy (sarod) was born in 1960 in Kolkata (Bengal) to a family of khyal musicians. His first teacher was his father, a disciple Radhika Mohan Maitra. Partho next studied with Dhyanesh Khan, son and disciple of Ali Akbar Khan. At the age of 16 Partho won the All India Radio national competition for instrumental music. At age 18 he became a disciple of Ravi Shankar. Still a student of this great master, he has toured and played intensively with him in India, Europe, and the USA. –more

Abhijit Banerjee studied tabla with Tushar Kanti Bose, Manik Pal and finally with Gyan Prakash Ghosh. As a child he won many major national music competitions. Besides tabla he also studied singing and violin. Abhijit is now a regular performer at all the major music festivals all over India and overseas, both as an accompanist and as a soloist. In his academic life he is a graduate in English with postgraduate training in journalism.

Born in 1962, Partha Bose was initiated to the sitar at the age of six and thereafter underwent intensive training in the guru-shishya tradition with Monoj Shankar of the Maihar Gharana. Partha was invited by the Government of India to lead a cultural delegation to African countries in honor of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of India's independence. The Australian Capital Territory Government invited him as the only Indian classical musician to the National Multicultural Festival in Canberra in February, 2009. –more
